What would life be if we had no courage to attempt anything?”
Vincent van Gogh
Where would we be if the Wright Brothers didn’t try create an airplane? Or if Henry Ford didn’t create the Model T? Edison didn’t invent the light bulb? Where would we be if Grand Master Flash didn’t have the guts to make that first rap record Rappers Delight? Or Jesse Owens winning four Olympic gold medals in fr…ont of Adolph Hitler? At some point in their life they were all at a crossroads: “Do I try, or do I quit now? What if it doesn’t work??” As you can see, they didn’t quit, and the rest is history. What is YOUR crossroads? What you have planned may not change the world, but it just might change your LIFE. The point is to just TRY! Don’t be afraid to push yourself to do something you might think is possible, or that you might fail. Go for it!

Include barley in your diet as it lowers your risk of type 2 diabetes and helps in reducing blood sugar level.
Barley contains magnesium which plays as a co-factor in the function…ing of various enzymes including those responsible for insulin secretion as well as for the body’s uptake of glucose. Barley was suggested to be even more helpful for type 2 diabetes in comparison to oats in a study conducted by the Agricultural Research Service at Beltsville.
Life is all about peaks and valley’s, ebbs & flows. We ALL have had good times in our life, and unfortunately they don’t last forever. We ALL have great stories to tell about fun, exciting things that we did or happened to us in our past. On the flip-side, we ALL have gone through tough times, terrible events… that seemed to last FOREVER. But they didn’t. They eventually passed, and we survived to see more good times. This is something we MUST remember, because not only will we have good times in our future, but the bad ones WILL be there sooner or later! When the bad times, come, remind yourself that they are a part of life, and eventually things WILL get better. Stay strong! The good times are coming. Count on it!

“Why not go out on a limb. Isn’t that where the fruit is?” Frank Scully

Health Tip of the Day: Have headaches and don’t know why? Try this tip:
Avoid wearing tight-fitting hats, headbands or a tight ponytail. They can cause strain on the connective tissue of the scalp leading to headache.

Eat a handful of raw walnuts along with meals high in saturated fat to help protect your arteries from the bad effects of the high-fat meal.
This finding comes from a study conducted by Spanish researchers at the University of Barcelona’s Hospital Clínico. A high-fat meal can temporarily stun your arteries, making them stiffen and less abl…e to expand in response to exercise. Over time, this repeated damage contributes to hardening of the arteries. As part of the study, researchers also noted that adding olive oil does not provide the same type of vascular protection.
Walnuts contain arginine, an amino acid used by the body to produce nitric oxide. Nitric oxide is produced by the inner lining of the arteries to keep the arteries flexible. When you eat high-fat meals, the fat molecules temporarily disrupt the production of nitric oxide. Walnuts also contain antioxidants and alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), a plant-based omega-3 fatty acid.

It’s starting to get wiarm outside. Time to take the bikes and head outside! Before you take off, though, Dr. Hunter Hodge, director of emergency services at Northwest Hospital says to give your sports equipment a safety check. “Many people put their bikes away for the whole winter, and forget that some repairs w…ere needed,” Dr. Hodge says. “Chains come off because they weren’t lubricated, or other problems occur since the bikes haven’t been used for months. These breakdowns can result in anything from a sprained wrist to broken bones.” Before that first spin around the neighborhood, check the bike, rollerblades, strollers and other outdoor sports equipment to make sure that everything is in great condition. Most of all, remember to wear your helmet if you’re biking, skating or boarding!
Lately I haven’t been able to hit the gym after work. That means I have to work out in the mornings at home. Luckily, I have a “home gym:” treadmill, jump rope, 225 pounds of free weights & bench, and an indoor trainer for my bike.
So, at 5am I’m up working it out! I prefer evening workouts, but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do. I must admit, working out in the morning forces me to go to bed at a decent hour, and when I do, I feel GREAT after my workouts. This is big forme, cuz I’m NOT a morning person. I prefer to stay up al lnight, then get mad at my self the next morning for staying up so late…
So,my workouts have changed slightly, but I’m still hitting it hard. Gotta get it in whenever/wherever you can!

“Remind yourself that it’s ok not to be perfect.” Anonymous
There’s nothing wrong with striving to be the best you can can be, but don’t put too much pressure on yourself trying to be perfect! Not everyone can have a 6 pack. Not everyone can run 40 yards in 4.3 seconds. Not everyone can act as well as Denzel, Will, Brad, or Angelina. Not everyone can dunk like Kobeor Lebron, or run a business like Oprah. No, you’re not perfect. Far from it! But what you CAN do is accept your limitations, yet STILL push yourself to be the best that YOU can be!

Do you believe you’re too young to have heart disease? Dr. Michael Duong, an interventional cardiologist with Western Washington Cardiology in Everett, says heart disease is not just reserved for old age. “People of all ages discover they have heart disease that, if left untreated, can be life-threatening. This includes congenital… heart disease – meaning the heart did not develop properly before birth – and irregular heartbeat, also known as heart arrhythmias.” Dr. Duong says quite often congenital heart disease has no symptoms among adults, but some may have shortness of breath or poor tolerance for exercise. In addition to having your heart checked out by a doctor, foods for a healthy heart include oatmeal, spinach, blueberries, salmon and soy.
